Every template, questionnaire and article on Oakclause is produced by our editorial team, which is why articles carry the byline “the Oakclause editorial team”.
What the team does
- Research and writing. We draft templates and questionnaires in plain English to reflect common US practice, drawing on statutes, regulations and official agency guidance where they apply, and note where state rules differ.
- Honest limits. Templates are not reviewed by a lawyer for your situation. They are a starting point for common, straightforward needs, and we recommend consulting a licensed attorney for complex or high-stakes matters, as explained in our editorial policy.
- Editing. Guides are edited for accuracy, readability and balance, and say plainly when a situation calls for a lawyer.
- Quality checks. Each template is generated from sample answers that exercise its optional sections and is checked automatically before every release.
How we decide what to cover
We prioritize the documents and questions people ask us about most, the areas where state law varies in ways that trip people up, and topics where a clear explanation can prevent an expensive mistake. Suggestions from readers shape this list; you can send one through our contact page.
Keeping content current
We update templates when we learn of legal changes or problems that affect them, and reader reports help us find them. Articles show the date they were last updated, and generated documents carry a template version number so changes can be traced.
Independence
Our editorial content is not for sale. Partners and affiliates have no say over what we write, and we do not accept payment to recommend documents, services or providers.
What we do not do
The editorial team cannot give legal advice about your situation, and Oakclause is not a law firm. If you need advice, our talk to a lawyer page can help you find an independent attorney.
